After such a wonderful and white Christmas and New Year, Ontario experienced a couple of days of unseasonably warm weather. January is usually our coldest month but we hit highs of plus 15 degrees celcius (we’d normally be -5 to -15) with strong gusting winds. The result of the warm weather and wind was a rapid meltdown of 15″ of accumulated snow and accompanying huge snow banks. Amazingly, and thankfully, the water didn’t just sit on top of the ground, it was actually warm enough to thaw the ground and absorb the water. There was also heavy fog from the water vapour escaping into the air as the mass of snow melted. The snowman on the front lawn suffered as he melted down to an icy blob.
